Best Alternative Gallery Exhibition Space: Gillock Gallery in
Evanston, IL.
Though it is a
kind of gallery, it is unique enough to fit the "alternative
space" category as well, in that it is
also a home - a rambling, beautiful Victorian house that Connie Gillock and
her family live in. She holds
four exhibits a year which the public can view during the opening receptions
or by appointment. More
importantly, the work is beautifully crafted with an emphasis on fine
draftsmanship and thoughtful,
humanist themes. If you like figurative painting and landscapes with a
strong Midwestern flavor, and you
attend one of Gillock's openings, you will be charmed by the art and the
warm atmosphere of the place.
