Matthew Ballou is an emerging artist and writer who earned a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of  Chicago in 2001 and an MFA from Indiana University Bloomington in 2005. Currently Visiting Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing at the University of Missouri, Ballou splits his time between Columbia, MO and Evanston, IL. Matthew's work is represented in private and corporate collections. His first book, One Hundred Permutations, a work on abstraction, was published in the Fall of 2003. He has also written the featured essay in the Summer 2006 Edition of the Image Journal. The title of the essay is Second Horizon: The Changing Vision of Odd Nerdrum. This year he'll be showing in a number of venues, including Ruschman Gallery in Indianapolis, IN.
